Narrated
by Abu Bakr,
When
a man asked Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him), who among men was
best, he replied, "He who has a long life and does what is
good." He asked who among men was worst and he replied, "He
who has a long life and does what is evil."
[Ahmad,
Tirmidhi and Darimi]
Quite
frequently, a few of our AJKs would hang out and have breakfasts
after the congregational Subuh prayer and Quran session which is also
attended by some of the committees of Masjid Hassanal
Bolkiah Pekan Tutong. One of them is Cikgu Haji Ibrahim, 85 years
old. Everytime, we would listen to his looooooong amazing life-story
like how he was among the first generation to be sent studying
abroad, or his miserable life during the seizure of Japan, how they
ran as the Japanese shot at them and so on. He can speak Japanese
too!
But
as we think about it, none of his story really touched us more than
what his action showed us - his obedience to Allah and his love for
Islam. And that how ashamed we were to ourselves that he attends the
congregational prayers more often than us. Hence, he has become our
dear example in doing goods.
Then we began to wonder how does a man about four times our age can
persevere in doing good, when his body is getting weaker, his memory is getting shorter, voice trembles and eye
sights blurring? The
answer would definitely by persevering in doing so while in young
age! So brothers and sisters, lets us too begin our change while we
are still young, begin now!
“If
we truly want to die as a Muslim, then live our lives as Muslims”
